Kaien Shiba was such a nice guys and everyone adores him. He got easy smiles, approachable demeanor and big heart. No one would wish this guy ill. But then good things must come to an end.
He was the vice-captain of the 13th Division under the command of Captain Jūshirō Ukitake. He was happily married and living a comfortable life. He had great future as a shinigami given his knowledge and ability.
His world stood still at the news of his wife’s death on the hand of a hollow. Wanting to have revenge, he, Kuchiki Rukia and his captain tracked the murderer. On the battlefield, he got overpowered by the hollow and got spiritually devoured, which then gives Rukia no choice but to kill him.
He died. Everyone sorely missed him and the 13th squad’s spirit seems to have died with him.
When everyone thought that he was finally at peace, Rukia had the unfateful encounter with the Arrancar who merged himself with Kaien. After several moments of hesitating to fight him seriously, history repeated itself. Once again, Rukia is left with one choice, which is to kill Kaien. This time Kaien is finally at peace and so is Rukia’s conscience.
